About
Heather Ray priest
My interest in photography began in my early years growing up in Central Idaho. It was the land that first informed my sense of self and identity of being a woman from Idaho. I got my first camera at age fourteen and soon decided that I wanted to be a filmmaker and tell stories through images. That was more than thirty years ago and I continue to seek authentic stories and natural beauty. My greatest influence has come from traveling the American road and studying the world around me in the absence of words. I left home young and traveled the world, seeing places I never imagined —New York City, Tokyo, Buenos Aires. I went on to study creative writing, cultural anthropology, poetry and cinema. My first films were poetry set to images and then I moved to documentary filmmaking. I went on to become a film and television producer, producing such films as Academy-Award nominated ‘Frozen River’, Netflix Originals ‘Tallulah’ and ‘Dude’, festival favorites such as ‘I Believe in Unicorns’ and ‘The Dry Land’ with America Ferrera. More recently I produced Amazon Series ‘Outer Range’ with Josh Brolin, and Apple Original film, ‘Fancy Dance’with Lily Gladstone. I have made more than forty films that I hope have somehow contributed to the canon of American independent cinema. Throughout my entire career I have taken photographs and shown my works in shows and galleries worldwide. Coming home to Idaho would mean everything to me. I am proud to be an eighth generation Idahoan – part cowgirl, part hippie, part outlaw, part seer. I believe that Images – replete and soulful –give us a basis for language and life. My shows always have a diversity of format and size, price-point and view-point. With the goal to have something for everyone, from the high-end collector to the person wanting a card or bookmark.
